
In the name of God, Amen. I, John Beal Clagett of Washington County & State of Maryland, being of sound and disposing mind memory & understanding and wishing to assign my worldly affairs that I may be in better ??? to go ???? when it shall please my Heavenly Father to call me....make my last will & Testament hereby revoking all others.
In the first place I order that my Executors hereinafter named shall pay all my just debts and afterwards I give and bequeath to my brother Samuel B. Clagett the sum of Five thousand five Hundred Dollars current money.
I give and bequeath to my brother David Clagett the sum of Five thousandfive hundred Dollars current money of the United States.
I give and bequeath to my nephew Doctor John Clagett Dorsey the sum of Six thousand Dollars like current money.
I give and bequeath to my sister Sophia Fitzhugh Fourteen Hundred Dollars like current money.
I give and bequeath to my brother Hezekiah Clagett the sum of Ten thousand Dollars of like current money.
I give and bequeath to Jane H. Compton of the District of Columbia the sum of Two thousand Dollars of like current money.
I give and bequeath to John Compton and his sister Miss Compton the two unfortunate deaf & dumb children of Mrs. Jane H. Compton above named the sum of one thousand Dollars each of like current money.
I give and bequeath to Beal C. Compton Son of Mrs. Jane H. Compton aforesaid the sum of one Thousand Dollars of like current money.
I give and bequeath to my Aunt Mrs. Anamia Beall of Cincinnati in the State of Ohio the sum of One thousand Dollars of like current money.
All the residue of my Estate I give and bequeath to my Brothers & Sisters to be equally divided among them share and share alike & if any of them shall die before this will takes effect the share to which such would have been entitled if living shall go to his or her child or children if he or she may have any otherwise it shall be distributed as the law directs.
It is my will & I do order that my Executors hereinafter named shall sell all my real estate in the State of Maryland & the State of Ohio or elsewhere & shall apply the proceeds thereof together with all my personal Estate to the Devices & bequest herein above expressed.
I hereby nominate and appoint my friend Daniel Sprigg of Hagers Town and my Brothers Samuel B. Clagett and David Clagett Executors of this my last Will & Testament and I do hereby authorize and empower them or such of them as shall assume the duties of Executor and qualify according to law as and or the survivors or survivor of them to make sales & conveyances & do all acts & things necessary to be done in the Execution hereof.
In Testimony that the above is my last Will and Testament & that I have revoke & do revoke all others I hereunto subscribe my hand and seal this 23 day of March in the year of our Lord 1833

Whereas in my Will above written bearing date the 23 day of March 1833 I have given and bequeathed to my nephew John Clagett Dorsey named therein hte sum of six thousand Dollars and on Consideration I have determined to ???????? so much of the above will as given any part of my Estate to my said nephew ??? it more proper that I should dispose of such part to my sister Sally Dorsey Mother of my said nephew. I do therefore give and bequeath to my said sister Sally Dorsey six Thousand Dollars current money of the United States with the same interest and distributive part of the residue mentioned in my aforesaid will as is given to my other Brothers & Sisters & subject to the same terms and conditions as therin expressed in case of the death of any of them. And I hereby ratify and confirm all other parts of said will not removed by this my Codicil which together with the above is my last Will. In Testimony of which I have signed and sealed the same this ... day of April 1833.

Washington County to Wit:
On this 22 day of September 1840 came David Clagett and Samuel B. Clagett and severally made oath &c that this is the true and whole will of John B. Clagett late of Washington County Deceased, that they do not know nor have heard of any other.
And at the same time... Wm. M. Marshall and swore with uplifted hands and ??? and made oath &c that they did see Jno. B. Clagett the testator within named sign and seal this will, that they heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and Testament, that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, that they subscribed their names as witness es to this will in the presence and at the request of the Testator and in the presence of each other and that they saw the other subscribing witness Elie Beatty do the same.
And at the same time came Richard Welsh and made oath &c that he did see Jno. B. Clagett the Testator within named sign and seal this Codicil ??? that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehension of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding that he subscribed his name as a Witness to this Codicil in the presence and at the request of the Testator and that he saw Henry Byers & Margaret Boumrew, the other two subscribing witnesses do the same.
